what's in a name?
A history of hospitality
Rare, coveted and delicious, the pineapple had a long history before becoming the symbol of hospitality.
In years gone by, the pineapple was a true celebrity. Its rarity, expense, and striking beauty made it the ultimate exotic fruit.
In Colonial times the sparse supply and high demand of the pineapple meant receiving it as a gift was of the utmost in hospitality - thus accounting for it's reputation as a status symbol.
Today, pineapples are seen as a welcoming motif — their depictions serve as door knockers, bookends, and tchotchkes, and they almost always come in a hotel gift basket.
